Dramatic Lighting and Posing for Boudoir Photography

A step-by-step workshop to teach photographers the simple way to light women in a dramatic, moody, artistic style that attracts nice-to-work-with paying clients

You're passionate about photography and want to create incredible images for clients that help you stand out from the competition.

Only problem is... you’re struggling with lighting and studio flash kinda scares you!

Creating flattering and dynamic lighting and posing is essential in my style of boudoir photography

But, if you’re like most photographers I talk to, you may be holding yourself back from artistic fulfillment if you are struggling with...

  • Fear & Overwhelm about studio lighting… it looks complicated / expensive / scary... what do you REALLY need... and what do you do with it?

  • Anxiety before or during a shoot… feeling stressed and flustered fiddling with switches and settings in front of people and feeling like you don’t know what you’re doing.

  • Frustration & Disappointment if you’ve experimented with studio lights but your results were not what you visualised and not consistent.

  • Lack of confidence directing clients into interesting poses that are still flattering

  • Guilt if you have invested in studio lights / equipment and they are still sitting in a cupboard forgotten and gathering dust!

Believe me... I have been there!

But my passion for photography was greater than my fear

So I decided to face my fear and do it anyway... experimented with lighting and quickly discovered it doesn't have to be complicated (or expensive). It can be super simple and STILL deliver incredible results that you will be proud of and your clients will love! It opened up a whole new world of creativity for me.

Hi... if you're new to me, I'm Mikaela Morgan

I am a portrait and boudoir photographer in the UK. I started my business way back in 2005 so I really have seen and experienced it all!

I started out as as a wedding photographer and almost fell out of love with photography as a result! But When I started shooting boudoir and learned to light creatively I fell back in love with my work and I never looked back. I am passionate about what I do and I still get butterflies when I see an amazing image on the back of my camera. It is incredibly rewarding and I attract clients who are a joy to work with and value my work.

My style is inspired by the Old Hollywood movie style of lighting from the early-mid 20th Century

For over 12 years I have used VERY simple lighting set ups

from studio flash to natural window light. I use both confidently and effectively which means I can concentrate on connecting with and directing my clients to create beautiful engaging images they love...

without wasting time fiddling with settings, staring at the back of my camera feeling confused, perplexed and stressed!

Now I am passionate about my work and find it so rewarding

However… it wasn’t always that way!

In 2010 I nearly gave up my photography business as I was shooting weddings, feeling stressed, anxious, burnt out and unfulfilled

I was heavily reliant on natural light or a flash stuck on top of my camera which, frankly, I hated using and never felt confident trying to use it off my camera.

I also shot portraits but mainly outside (praying it wouldn't rain) or inside clients' homes using what little light was available from their windows.

I was winging it… big time. But it taught me to be resourceful and learn to really see light and manipulate it as much as I could.

Although my clients loved my work, if I'm honest, I didn't enjoy weddings. As a sociable introvert I love deep conversation and connection. So standing at the top of a ladder trying to direct 100 (slightly drunk and jeering) wedding guests was not my idea of artistic fulfillment and I often felt anxious, stressed and queasy on the morning of a wedding.

I really wanted to slow the pace down, photograph and connect with people on a more one-to-one level, indulge the secret artist in me and create beautiful images that made people gasp and feel good about themselves. I wanted to ENJOY my work!

So I made it happen...

It was only when I attended a seminar about boudoir photography that my passion for photography was re-ignited

When I left the seminar I was buzzing! I just had this feeling that this was what I was meant to do! I loved how a boudoir shoot could be a really positive, transformative experience for a woman. I had no studio, I had no lights. I had no idea how to pose or light women in that way but I was determined to make it work.

I knew I needed to up my game and learn new lighting skills if I was going to be shooting boudoir. Living in the UK I could not always rely on having good light indoors from windows. And though it scared the bejaysus out of me I faced my fear anyway and bought an inexpensive studio flash kit and started experimenting and teaching myself.

And to my surprise… I discovered that it was way more simple to create gorgeous and dynamic lighting than I ever imagined.

It was life changing

And I would love to help and encourage you to do the same by sharing my techniques with you in my lighting course where I’ll also share how I pose clients too!

The truth is: If you want to create beautifully lit images you just need to learn some simple basics

Let's work through and practice getting better at lighting so you can create beautiful and exciting images. Even if you're just starting from scratch.

Take it from me, I went from feeling stressed and wanting to give up my photography business to turning it around within months and completely changing and upgrading my style, shooting images that I loved and attracting clients that are willing to spend an average of $1200 with me. And there is no reason why you can’t do the same if you practise the techniques I will teach you.

So let's do this!

Here's what you're getting inside the workshop

A total of 6 hours of bite size training videos including boudoir lighting tuition PLUS the bonus Portrait Lighting to take you from “Where the hell do I start” to "Confident & Excited to get started!"

This online workshop is designed to help you get crystal clear on how to create exciting lighting and posing for in a simple, uncomplicated way.

You will have lifetime access to the videos in an online training portal so you can re-watch them whenever you want.

Not only do I cover studio flash lighting and posing for my style of boudoir but I have also included extra bonus modules that cover natural light options, workflow, editing, retouching and even pricing

Its like shadowing me in a real life photoshoot

The videos are unscripted and I am photographing a woman who is not a model, has never had a boudoir shoot before and has no idea how to pose. This is as close as you’ll get to shadowing me at a client photoshoot in my studio.

I guide my client while also talking to you and guiding you through my process. You’ll see that I am not 100% perfect and I sometimes slip up just like everybody does. Yet I still produce great results. I hope you will find that reassuring…iIf I can do it you can too! Don't let perfectionism get in the way. Don’t put off your learning… start now… start practising the techniques I teach and your confidence will grow in leaps and bounds.

It's time to banish anxiety and start having fun!

PLUS 3 BONUS MODULES!

  • BONUS: Boudoir Photoshoot - Natural Window Light

I decided to set myself a challenge of recreating the photos with Chloe in the previous studio flash module but this time only using the window light I had available in my studio. I hope you will find this helpful if you have not yet purchased studio flash and want to start practising this style of lighting and posing now (and I encourage you to!)

  • BONUS: Workflow, Editing & Retouching

It's essential to create a system for storing photos and to stay organised… so you can avoid those gut wrenching panic moments where you think you’ve lost an entire photoshoot (I know that feeling!) I take you through my own simple workflow, show you also how I narrow down the photos before I retouch them ready to show my clients. Plus you’ll watch how I adjust my RAW files in Lightroom and then take you through my retouching process in Photoshop of an image from Chloe’s photoshoot.

  • BONUS: Pricing

It took only 2 or 3 practice shoots for me to feel confident enough to start marketing myself as a boudoir photographer and take paying clients. There is no reason why you cannot do that too! Even if you are ‘new’ to this genre or way of shooting that is no reason to be cheap. My first 2 years of shooting boudoir I had many clients but I was far too cheap and only made a small profit. If you are taking the time and effort to create beautiful images for women then you need to be paid your worth. In this bonus lesson I will take you through my current price list that I still use and explain exactly the strategy behind my price list and packages that help me achieve a consistent average sale of £1,000 per client.

PLUS! Bonus Mini Course Lighting Portraits of Women

Learn to light portraits of women indoors confidently using natural light or a simple one light studio light set up to create flattering skin tone. I demonstrate using two women in their mid to late 50s who are not models to give you a more true to life learning experience.

All this for an incredibly affordable price!

Kind words from past coaching students...

I’ve learnt more in two sessions with you than in any other portrait training

by Elaine Rushton

I just wanted to say a huge ‘thank you’ for the brilliant bootcamp training over the weekend. I’ve so enjoyed the process and feel that I’ve learnt more in the two sessions with you than in any other portrait training I’ve undertaken before. You have a great gift for explaining everything in a clear, easy to follow way, and showing us the sometimes subtle differences in images taken with different settings or set-ups has been invaluable in understanding how to harness the light. It was particularly useful to see the effects on images of getting the lighting slightly wrong. Watching you work with Bev has been inspirational as well. I have picked up so many little nuggets of treasure along the way. Great that I can re-watch the videos at my leisure too!

I am now confident in posing my models and also using off camera flash which is something I never used until after this course.

Jerry Keeble

Mikaela is an amazing tutor who has a lovely, relaxing way of teaching that helps you understand the process from start to finish. Photography can be very complicated and overwhelming to learn, however Mikaela breaks it down into bite sized chunks and makes it easy to understand. Following on from the course I am now confident in posing my models and also using off camera flash which is something I never used until after this course. Mikaela has now given me the confidence to experiment with different styles and genres taking my photography above and beyond anything I could have expected.

She is brilliant at demonstrating lighting and poses

Kirsty Sweeting

Mikaela gave me lessons and business tips for boudoir photography. I love the fact she's so friendly and never makes you feel stupid no matter what you ask! I know if I got stuck on a shoot she would help me out and she is brilliant at demonstrating lighting and poses etc. I’ve had other tutors before but only actually learnt from Mikaela. Recommend 100%
